he wrote a paragraph of slavery with the delcaration of independence because when it was that time peiriod the declaration of independence did (used) to include that slavery would be stopped and they would be free thomas jefferson and other people realizing he owned slaves they changed it up to "all men would be free" meening all white men sorry slaves and women
