People cannot evolve by themselves, but they have genes that they can pass down to offspring as a favored trait for survival. A gene is the basic functional unit of heredity. They are made up of DNA that act as instructions to make molecules and copy genetic traits. These genetic traits are instantly visible, such as eyes or color but others are not, such as blood type or risk for specific disease.
