Answer: d. late spring

The annual flooding of the Nile is caused by a yearly monsoon between May and August. However, in ancient times Egyptians believed it to be the arrival of Hapi, god of the flooding of the Nile (though not of the Nile itself). Hapi symbolized fertility, as the flooding provided fertile soil in an otherwise dry environment.
